Ibrahim Miranda
Ibrahim Miranda has gained international recognition for his art work.
He frequently uses the morphology of Cuba as a pretext for a reinterpretation of himself.
In the 1990s, Ibrahim was already known as one of art’s innovators and in 1993 he found a place in this interstice between science and art. He began to appropriate pages from the atlas and cover them with his own personal marks. Today the results can be seen in his approach to cartography.
'I believe that cartography in itself- whether in an aesthetic or scientific manner - has its own particular enchantment. Worldwide, the history of cartography describes an untold number of attempts to stigmatize our concrete physical space in order to mask the fragility of our hemisphere'.
Ibrahim revolutionizes contemporary art in Cuba, by revealing through his work, above all, the nature of the island where he grew up and lives.
